The fifth hole stretched into an oval. The strap curled into a bacon strip. And the fit was never right anyway: the fourth hole one click too tight, the fifth two clicks too loose, your actual waist somewhere in between, every single day.
The Datum deletes the hole system entirely. Jacquard-woven stretch polyester holds its shape under a loaded tool pouch, then gives just enough when you sit in the truck. The alloy auto-lock lands on your exact waist, not the nearest punched hole, and stays there.
The last time you punched a new hole in a belt should have been the last time, period.
Thread the belt through your loops, mark the overlap, trim the excess with household scissors. The cut end seals and tucks behind the keeper loop. No flapping tail.
Feed the webbing into the magnetic auto-lock and press it home. The magnetic lock grips the weave itself. No holes, no ratchet teeth chewing the strap.
Morning routine becomes: press, click, done. The stretch webbing moves with you all day, sitting, driving, hauling, and the magnetic lock only opens when you press it. Comfort you stop noticing.
Stretch webbing settles during the first 30 days of wear. If your fit loosens in month one, that's the break-in. Re-seat the buckle once and it holds. If it ever loosens beyond that, the Field Guide shows the 10-second fix, and the lifetime guarantee covers the rest.
The webbing is 1.5″ wide, standard for jeans, work pants, and chinos. The buckle body runs slightly wider. If you mostly wear slim dress slacks with 1.25″ loops, this isn't your belt yet; the slim Datum Lite is on the roadmap. We print this here because the #1 cause of returns in this category is a buckle that won't pass a dress loop.
One uncut length of 130 cm / 51″ trims down to fit waists from 28″ to 46″. There is no size chart because there is no size to choose. Buying it as a gift? You can't get the size wrong. That's the point.
"Sized it in two minutes. Worn it every day for eight months. Still tight."

"Bought the Patriot for my husband for Father's Day. Didn't have to guess a size, and he's worn it every day since. Easiest gift I've ever gotten right."

"Three months on a framing crew. The magnetic lock's never slipped and the webbing hasn't sagged with a full pouch hanging off it."
Hector M. · TexasFramer
"I sized it standing at the kitchen counter, exactly like the steps said. Ninety seconds is about right."
Paul D. · MichiganHVAC tech
"Buckle face picked up a scuff off a tailgate the first week. Webbing's been flawless, so four stars, not five."
Chris B. · GeorgiaShop foreman
"Wore the Monolith to a wedding, then the same belt on a dump run the next morning. Nobody could tell."
Aaron S. · IdahoProject manager
"The end tucks behind the keeper, so there's no tail flapping over the buckle. Small thing. I notice it every day."

"My wife ordered the Aegis in khaki. I'd have never picked a $40 belt online. I was wrong."

Compared at list prices from each brand's published product pages. If you're buying a belt that fits exactly, holds all day, and doesn't cost two of itself, that's the Datum.
Every belt in this category claims a lifetime guarantee. Then you go to use one and it's an email chain, a request for the original buyer's address, and a partial credit. We built ours as a product spec, not a marketing line.
Webbing wears out? Buckle finish fails? Fill one form, get one belt. Received it as a gift? You're covered. We don't need the buyer's email.

Ray Calloway ran electrical crews for nineteen years and went through a leather belt about every nine months of it. The last one died on a Tuesday: fifth hole blown into an oval, strap curled like bacon. He did the math on two decades of $30 belts somewhere on the drive home.
He didn't want a fashion brand. He wanted the belt equivalent of the tools that survive a job site: one honest spec, webbing that holds a loaded pouch, a buckle that opens on purpose and never by accident, priced like the maker isn't billing you for his ad budget.
So that's the Datum. Webbing from the best Jacquard mill he could find, every belt cut, assembled, and inspected in the US, and Ray still reads every review under four stars himself.
"A belt isn't an accessory. It's the one tool you wear every day. Build it like that."Ray Calloway · Founder, Datum
It's one cut with household scissors, done once. The three steps above show the whole process, and the same guide lands in your order confirmation email on day zero, before the belt does. The most common failure in this category is buyers discovering sizing friction after delivery, which is why we put the steps on the page instead of burying them in a help center.
The Datum uses a magnetic auto-lock mechanism. Opening it requires a deliberate press on the release. It isn't actuated by bending, crouching, or pressure against the buckle face. That's a design choice we made specifically after reading how magnet-only buckles behave in the wild.
The magnetic auto-lock grips the weave mechanically rather than relying on friction alone. Expect the webbing itself to settle slightly during the first 30 days of wear. That's normal break-in, and re-seating the buckle once dials it back in. If it ever loosens beyond that, that's a warranty claim, and our warranty is one form.
No, and we won't market it as one. The Datum is built for daily wear: job site, office, field, tailgate. It will carry a phone clip, tape measure, and tool pouch all day. A loaded duty holster needs a reinforced-core belt, which this isn't. A Datum Tactical with a stiffened core is on the roadmap; until it ships, we'd rather send the serious-carry buyer elsewhere than oversell this one.
One size fits 28–46″ waists, so there's no size to get wrong. If he doesn't like it: 30-day money-back, and we pay return shipping on fit issues. And the lifetime guarantee follows the belt, not your email address. The recipient can claim it himself, forever.
Same construction class: stretch Jacquard webbing, alloy buckle, cut to fit. We launched without retail markups and without staging color releases to drive repeat hype purchases, and we skipped the one feature that doesn't hold your pants up: the magnetic snap sound. $39.95 is the price the category's own customers keep asking for in reviews. We listened to theirs.
Monolith if it has to pass at the office: clean, unbroken brushed face. Aegis if your week ends at the range or in the field: faceted shield motif. Facet if you want the one that gets asked about: geometric, design-forward. Patriot for the veteran, the Fourth-of-July grill captain, or the dad who's impossible to shop for: a monochrome brushed-metal flag, not a sticker.
